04/26/2011 - PD Systems, Inc. Delivers New PU500 Power Unit

ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 26, 2011 - PD Systems, Inc., a privately held Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, announced today that they have delivered two of their new PU500 power units to the 17th Air Force, located at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, which serves as the air and space component to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). The units, comprised of 500KW 480VAC/60Hz generators, were designed using a Volvo TAD1642GE engine to drive a Marathon 572RSL series alternator which is controlled by an electronic engine controller and automatic voltage regulator for stand-alone and isochronous parallel operations. The power unit is a prime power configured unit installed on a rugged tri-axle trailer with a 500 gallon fuel tank integrated into the trailer base. The PU500 works with the new Low Voltage Secondary Distribution Centers (SDCL), a 480VAC input version of the standard SDC used by the military. A single PU500 can supply power up to four (4) SDCLs daisy-chained together with a second PU500 connected to the system as an alternate power source, providing redundancy to the distribution system. PD Systems also provided equipment familiarization and operation training to include operations and training manuals.

PD Systems is supporting the Night Vision, Electronic Sensors Directorate at Fort Belvoir, VA in all aspects of the test regime. The test effort is funded through the U.S. Marine Corps’ MarCorSysCom at Quantico, VA.

The current standard net, the Ultra-lightweight Camouflage Net System (ULCANS) consists of two variants, woodland and desert, which are combined in a single net with the candidate nets being tested.

Field testing, including visual, NIR and thermal data collection has been completed at both woodland and desert sites, using the PD Systems' Camouflage test frames.

PD Systems is currently conducting laboratory observer trials to assess the visual effectiveness of the candidate nets when compared to that of the current ULCANS.
